Understanding Colorado's Fiscal Challenges

Date: Feb 9, 2016

Colorado faces several fiscal challenges moving forward. Our tax system is inefficient and outdated, meaning it cannot keep pace with economic growth, an aging population, rising health costs or our education and workforce needs. The ability to modernize that system is limited by complicated and contradictory requirements in the state constitution.

The following resources are a guide to some of these important issues.

  • We've created 14 charts that explain Colorado's fiscal challenges -- you can see the charts in the image below or scroll to the bottom of the page to download the charts as individual images or as a PowerPoint presentation.
  • Also at the bottom of the page, you will find a more detailed PowerPoint presentation on the budget, TABOR and Medicaid and a PowerPoint presentation on TABOR rebates.
  • Click here to check out (and share) our Plain Talk on Colorado's Budget video.
  • Our Road to 2016 document provides a written synopsis of how Colorado's fiscal path to where we are today.
